It turned into such an exciting day when my phone started ringing and the good news started to roll in. I was thankful I wasn't in public because I'd been doing my little dance of joy all day. At the final count six of my comedy course graduates and advanced comedy workshop members were through to the semi-finals of the highly regarded and original new act competition "So You Think You're Funny" at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. Plus one weekend comedy course participant, an honorary member of our Brighton comedy tribe and a new local Comic Boom act.
I wasn't the only one that night raising a glass in a toast to all our exciting new local rising comedy stars, not just to the incredible eight, but to all our emerging local comedy talent whose stars are yet to rise. If you're up at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival please go along to their SYTYF heats and cheer on Dan Fardell, David Jordan, Julie Oliver, Fraser Geesin, Russ Peers, Ken Langfield, Chris Stewart, Phil Jerrod and Ben Price. Last year Ingrid Dahle followed in the footsteps of past comedy course graduates of mine and made it all the way through to the SYTYF Final. Whatever happens our incredible eight will do us all proud.
We knew my lovely comedy course graduate Rich Perry had made it through to the Final of the Chortle Student New Comedy Award a while back but the time is nearly here, as that competition Final is also at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. I will be reassuring, encouraging and hopefully not embarassing in public with the leaping and the cheering a lot this Edinburgh Festival! I cannot wait!
