I'm sending out proud and heartfelt congratulations again to my stand-up comedy course at Komedia Brighton graduate Christian Jegard. He beat stiff competition to win the runner-up place in Leicester Comedy Festival's prestigious comedy competition "Leicester Mercury Comedian of the Year." I could not be prouder of him.
This comedy competition is considered a very special one in the comedy community because a comedian has to be nominated by more than one established comedy club promoter to get into the Final. There's no heats and comedians can't apply to enter this competition. It's all about which fast rising new acts comedy club promoters have enjoyed the most over the past year. The line-ups for the Final are, as a result - fiercely fantastic.
I'm delighted that Christian Jegard joins my stand-up course graduate Ingrid Dahle as a previous "Leicester Mercury Comedian of the Year" runner up. It's a comedy competition that has been won by my Komedia Brighton comedy course graduates Seann Walsh and Romesh Ranganathan. And my comedy class graduates David Jordan and Dinesh Nathan have both made it into the Final in previous years. I'm so proud of our track record in this prestigious competiton.
Christian Jegard is relatively new to the comedy scene. He was one of the newest comedians to make it into the "Komedia New Comedy Award" Final in 2020. During the pandemic Christian went online and created award winning online comedy sketches and songs. Christian won the British Comedy Guide's pro Video Contest in 2020. And was a Finalist in Sketched Out at the Comedy Store, Musical Comedy Awards, Chortlist, Austin Comedy Film Festival and was Runner Up again in the Comedy Crowd TV Showcase. It's been a very tough time for stand-up but the future is looking bright for this particular stand-up and I cannot wait to see what happens next for Christian Jegard.
