I coud not be prouder of my delightfully eccentric, warm-hearted and funny, Spring 2019 stand-up comedy class. Last night they made their stand-up debuts in our sold out "New Act Night" show in Komedia' Brighton's fabulous Main Space venue.
My Advanced Comedy Workshop group put an actual carrier bag of sweets, biscuits and cakes backstage for our newbies. I love that tradition. It happens every show. Never have so many Jaffa Cakes been eaten in the pursuit of so much laughter at Komedia Brighton.
Our huge audience of 275 could not have been more delighted with each and every one of my comedy course fledglings. They all had unique, interesting material with heart, which they performed joyfully and confidently. It was such a pleasure to watch them. I enjoyed every minute of the show.
I knew it was going to be a great one when the audience reacted to the lights going down with woops and cheers. And then they clapped along with the walk-on music. The atmosphere was absolutely electric from the minute our incredible MC Angela Barnes came on stage. I'm pretty sure we had the most over-excited happy audience of all the shows at the Brighton Fringe Festival last night. Their cheers, woops, applause, laughter and sheer enjoyment of it all was absolutely deafening (in a great way).
It was a special "New Act Night" show too because it marked 10 years since Angela Barnes did my stand-up comedy course at Komedia Brighton and performed onstage for the first time ever in our "New Act Night" show. I'm delighted that Angela still comes back to MC my "New Act Night" show twice a year. Angela gave all my comedy course fledglings a card, a little present and a little bottle of champers (for after they came off stage). She's a pretty special person as well as a first rate comedian. Angela's been all over our televisions and our radios in the last few years. Who knows which of my comedy course fledglings from last night will follow in her footsteps. It's all very exciting!
I can't wait to do it all over again with my Autumn 2019 stand-up comedy course at Komedia Brighton. Woop!
